Houston Periodontist Installed as AAP President

Michael K. McGuire maintains a full-time private periodontal practice in Houston and is a clinical assistant professor of periodontics at the University of Texas.

Michael McGuireCHICAGO – September 18, 2000 – The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) installed Michael K. McGuire, D.D.S., as president today during its 86th Annual Meeting in Honolulu. He maintains a full-time private periodontal practice in Houston and is a clinical assistant professor of periodontics at both the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

An AAP member since 1977, McGuire has served on numerous key committees and taskforces for the AAP, and he also serves on the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation board of directors.

McGuire graduated from Baylor University and received both his D.D.S and certificate of periodontics from Emory University School of Dentistry. McGuire is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and is past president of the Greater Houston Dental Society, the Southwest Society of Periodontics and the Texas Society of Periodontists. In addition, he participates in clinical research and has published many papers in prestigious journals as well as contributed chapters to textbooks.

In 1997, the AAP presented McGuire the Clinical Research Award recognizing a series of his papers as the most clinically relevant periodontal research published that year. McGuire also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Periodontology and the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants. He has also given many continuing education programs throughout the Unites States and abroad.
